This past weekend we were on Anna Maria Island, FL. A little island typically known for it's sandy white beaches, palm trees, turquoise waters, sunshine and clear blue skies for miles. In the evening, it becomes a place that would make for the perfect proposal at sunset. And that exactly how this well kept secret was set up.
Naturally, as mother nature likes to make her presence known, the storms came rolling in. With secret texts and phone calls as the time came near, Jarrett & I were in touch with "Jake" who was anxiously watching the weather with us to be sure we could all pull this off without "Brier" (Jake's Love) picking up on the surprise. We received a phone call letting us know that Jake had decided to move the proposal time up a bit as the look of bad weather was coming sooner than later.
Jarrett & I rushed out by the water to our places (pretending we were random tourists on the beach taking pictures) and waited for the cute couple to come out. During this time the wind was blowing so hard, the ocean waves crashing and dark clouds were looming.. One would think...there must be a better time to propose. But not for Jake. You see, Jake and Brier have been dating for 4 years . They met in college and were friends for a year before they took the leap of faith gradually turning that friendship into a beautiful love story. Jake wasn't about to let time pass them by. This was the 1st day of their vacation (they are from Ohio) and he was ready to make Brier his fiance.
He began with telling her why that particular location was so significant and gave her a bracelet with the coordinates of the proposal spot. While Brier thought "that" was why it was so important for her walk out to the beach with him and this storm brewing....Jake took a knee and professing his love for Brier and asked her to be his wife. With her Panama hat blowing off and tears streaming, she said "YES"!
Jarrett and I introduced ourselves and let her know that her fiance had this planned for quite a while and he also booked an engagement photo shoot directly after. However, right after we said those words, the BIGGEST raindrops began falling without any warning of a sprinkle and we all ran for the beach house. The skies open up and we were soaked! After we made it under shelter, Jake and Brier popped the champagne cork and we toasted to the newly engaged couple!
....But there was something else significant about this proposal.
Jake's Daddy (Phil) passed away in 2009 and wasn't able to hug his boys neck and tell him "Well done young man, I'm proud of you". The beach on Anna Maria Island where the gulf brings a peaceful calmness to many is where Phil lay to rest. I can't help but think that Jake's Daddy was letting us know that he was there. Phil had a fun sense of humor and one could image tears of happiness from the heavens opening up. BUT there was likely a little bit of fun in there with Phil laughing and saying, "Ahaha...look at those kids running through the rain". You are missed dearly Phil...you crazy "Parrott Head"!
Jarrett and I feel so blessed to have been asked to be part of such a special day for Jake and Brier. We know how important these moments are. Come rain or shine, Jarrett & I make sure to "Capture your Lifetime Memories"! June 10, 2017 "She said Yes"!
We rescheduled their Engagement Photo Shoot for the following morning where the seas were calm and sun was shining. Congratulations Jake & Brier from your G&J Image family!
